Marc Alessi is a climate scientist in the Climate Program at the Union of Concerned Scientists. In his role, he conducts research with climate models, machine learning, and simple approximations of the climate system to understand how Earth's climate and extreme weather events are changing due to fossil fuel emissions.

Dr. Alessi was previously a UCS science fellow focusing on attribution science to inform UN loss and damage funding. He also helped lead an intercomparison project among the world's top climate modeling centers, and has worked on projects in drought attribution, statistical methods for downscaling weather forecasts, precipitation projections for the Southwestern United States, and the impacts of ocean temperature patterns on global temperature projections.
Dr. Alessi has been quoted in AP, CNN, Grist, New York Times, Reuters, space.com, USA Today, Vox, and local news affiliates.

Dr. Alessi earned a PhD in atmospheric science from Colorado State University, and an MS and BS in atmospheric science from Cornell University.
