Ranyee Chiang is the Western States Program Director at the Union of Concerned Scientists. In her role, she leads the program’s efforts to create effective policies addressing climate change in California and the Western United States.

Dr. Chiang has served in leadership roles working in climate policy, equity and justice, coalition building, and systems innovation. Prior to joining UCS, she served as Director of the Meteorology and Measurement Division at the Bay Area Air Quality Management District, where she led a division of more than 60 scientists and engineers, advanced the agency’s strategic plan, streamlined operations, and strengthened wildfire forecasting to protect communities. She also launched the Climate Tech Finance program and designed equity-focused programs such as Clean Cars for All, delivering benefits to thousands of low-income households.

Before that, Dr. Chiang was director of standards, technology, and fuels at the United Nations Foundation, where she convened 45 nations to set global clean energy standards, and championed equity in international policy-setting.

Dr. Chiang has spoken to audiences at the UN climate summit COP, the University of California, San Francisco's Climate Change & Health Series, and TEDx UN. She holds a PhD in biological and medical informatics from the the University of California, San Francisco and a BS in computational biology from Brown University. She was a AAAS fellow at the Department of Energy.
