We’re excited to continue engaging with supporters on our critical work both virtually and in-person. The health and safety of our staff, supporters, partners, and event staff inform our event policies. Therefore, UCS has established protocols for in-person events to reduce the risk and spread of COVID-19.
The Union of Concerned Scientists will continue to follow the science, including CDC guidelines, and UCS will adjust our policies and practices as current recommendations and conditions dictate. The guidelines will help us protect our community while also continuing in-person activities. Below is an overview of our event policies and expectations.
Our expectations
- Our events will follow current CDC recommendations and state and local guidance as relevant.
- All attendees will be vaccinated based on current CDC recommendations for booster shots.
- We will require pre-event registration or contact information from walk-in attendees to manage capacity and follow-up with attendees in case of exposure.
- We will cancel an event if local COVID cases increase risk exposure. In most cases, we will offer the program virtually instead.
- Please remember that the responsibility for protecting yourself and others against covid-19 exposure rests solely with you.
- By attending a UCS event, you voluntarily assume any and all risks associated with potential exposure to covid-19 (coronavirus), and you, as a result of this release, waive and hold UCS harmless from any illness, injury, or damages incurred by you in connection with your attendance at this event.
We promise
- We will ensure venues are following current CDC recommendations for safe indoor gatherings. We will prioritize spaces committed to providing safe and clean environments for all guests and have practices and procedures to ensure their commitment.
- The traffic flow of large groups, especially during arrival, transitions, breaks, meals, and departure, will be thoughtfully managed to reduce crowding.
- The event host will provide stations with hand sanitizer, face masks, and disinfectant wipes at main entrances.
- We will endeavor to offer food & beverage service that minimizes cross-contamination while doing our very best to adhere to sustainable practices.
You promise
- You will register for the event you plan to attend.
- You will stay home if you or someone you are in close contact with is not feeling well.
- You will be fully vaccinated. You have received the current CDC recommended boosters. You have received the primary series of COVID-19 vaccines.
- You will be prepared to wear a face mask during the event, should local regulations require it, regardless of vaccination status, unless you are eating and drinking. If you forget to bring a facemask, one will be available.
You will cancel your registration if any of the following applies:
- You have tested positive for covid-19
- Are waiting for covid-19 test results,
- Have covid-19 symptoms, or
- If you have had close contact with a person who has tested positive for or has symptoms of covid-19
